Piebald PatternText Box: Wow where do I start? This is not a typical pattern in the GSD breed however since we know that recessives are for-ever and the original German Shepherds came in all coat types, colors and patterns that seeing this pattern should not really be that much of a surprise. However, seeing them in the flesh it certainly does make you step back and ponder.

The piebald gene is still being researched to find out what causes the many variants it produces. The piebald gene is also known as the white spotting gene.

It can produce a small amount of white or it can produce an extreme amount of white. We know this gene is a recessive so both parents must carry it to produce it.

Since the information is ever changing I feel it is best to provide this link to an expert in this field. Sheila Schmutz did test CorDawn Blue’s sire (Storm) for the white spotting gene as Storm has produced 2 pups with this pattern to an unrelated female.

Please keep in mind that CorDawn Blue and Ross are not related within at least 5 generations so there is not any inbreeding or line breeding.
DNA will be done by AKC (for parentage authenticity) and vetgen for pattern identity.
